The University of Nevada, Reno held a BFA Thesis Exhibition. David Delfon a student artist majoring in Journalism and minoring in art presented his Bachelor Of Fine Arts Thesis. Delfon’s art told a interactive story from the moment you stepped in. When you walk in you see yourself being filmed. Which is jarring, engaging the audience, to the right of this artwork there’s a billboard. This billboard is an advertised commercial funk. Which has a hand and a coin presented on the billboard. The next room when walking in is a projector of a spinning can. You can interact with the can with its motion projecting onto the wall. If you look further down into the room there’s a candy machine. If you bring a quarter you can buy stickers made from Delfon. Every object you see has a form of human interaction and purpose.

Delfon using his journalism communication skills and art skills creates an interactive experience that immerses the audience when they walk in. He gave the history of the objects their own narrative. Using objects that was important to him from when he was younger. Delfon was able to create an alternative meaning within them. His relationship with technology integrated into people’s decision making on how they interact with objects. Using media consumption and his love of random things Delfon made a statement with interpersonal connections with how technology is connected with our use of media. Tackling how media can observe us making us feel uncomfortable he higlighted within his work how media can be fun quirky and stupid with movement and its actions. Exposing the pros and cons of the use of technology he gave each object its own attention adding depth of objects just being objects.

This posed the question with such powerful communications skills. As an Art minor and a Journalism student the relationships with social media is a very complex topic. How do I communicate with technology and what is my relationship with technology? Technology seems as a way to observe and understand a new wave of information. Technology is as human as a baby just in a different form. Technology has progressed with how humans have understood it. Technology pairs within our lives making it easier or difficult. Technology is its own breed. David Delfon shared that concept within his work really well and gives me admiration for the art department as well as the Reynolds school of Journalism media studies.

Understanding what technology means to Delfon’s his relationships with certain objects was inspired from his childhood, and his perception of what technology has impacted in his life. The use of each object were past relations he used to tell a personal narrative on his experience and others experience with technology.
